Jeff Thigpen for Guilford County Register of Deeds
It’s been an honor to serve the citizens as Register of Deeds for nearly 12 years.
The Guilford County Register of Deeds office is one of the premier offices in North Carolina in every area of our daily operations. A third party recently surveyed our customers and confirmed it. We strive to do our best every day. I’m so thankful to many of you have helped make that happen through your support over the years.
I’ve never been a typical politician and I don’t plan on starting now. As a former Commissioner and Register of Deeds I’ve sought to be a leader that serves fundamental values such as basic fairness, opportunity, and the citizens I serve matter.
I see my office as foundational to democracy, transparency and fair dealing not just a cog in the bureaucracy. That’s why I testified in US District Court in Jacksonville Florida against Lorraine Brown, former CEO of Doc X, one of the few people to go to jail as a result of the financial crisis. I challenged major banks and Fannie and Freddie because local land records offices matter to our economy. And I’ve worked to create technology programs like “Fraud Alert” and the “Baby App” to facilitate my offices operations in ways that are practical in our daily lives.
I believe in basic fairness and equality for all my customers. I’ve treated same sex couples with dignity and respect as marriage laws changed in North Carolina and have fought against bad legislation from our General Assembly. I’ve made it easier to get marriage licenses and birth certificates online too.
And finally, I believe in taking care of veterans. We’ve started a Guilford County Veterans “Thank A Vet” Discount Program with nearly 260 businesses signed up to provide discounts for Vets and went live on Memorial Day. Veterans will get ID cards to use at participating merchants—a real public private partnership. Other counties are now starting their own programs.
I’m asking you to support my re-election as your Guilford County Register of Deeds. It would be greatly appreciated. Filing begins December 1st. So, we are working hard to get ready!
Thank you for your support!
